Hi Sumona! We’re happy to have you as a host, you’re the first one to serve Bangladeshi food in Krakow. How did you learn to cook?
I learned cooking from my mother mostly. Also my aunt (my father’s sister) inspired me greatly to learn cooking.
What does food mean to you?
I believe that food is not only for living or to mitigate hunger. To me food is passion, art and one of the best possible ways to win people’s heart and love.
What is so special in Bangladeshi cuisine and culture?
Different types of spices, herbs, yummy sweets and desserts. Additionally we do have colorful decoration and beautiful fragrance. Moreover, we never forget the passion and love of the cook. We always say that the passion for cooking comes straight from the heart of the cook. My country’s food is unique and it has distinct features. For example, our main dish is rice but we eat rice with different curries which are significantly different from each other. We also have huge variety of tastes, flavors and fragrances in food.
How would you recommend the Bangladesh cuisine to Europeans?
Don’t be afraid of spices. It has its own special taste and flavor which can make your food delicious and mouthwatering. So try it!
Which ingredient you always have in your house?
Rice, as we base our food on this essential ingredient.
What is your family's favorite thing you cook for them?
Special Biriyani, which is a mixed rice dish with its origins at the Indian subcontinent, made with spices, rice, lentils, meat and vegetables.
Do you have your favorite meal, if yes what dish it is ?
I have so many different favorite items starting from sweets to spicy flavor. So it is very difficult to choose any specific one, but I definitely love Fuchka and Chotpoti (special street food from Bangladesh).
What is the most unforgettable meal you have ever had?
I try my best to make every meal such an extraordinary experience, especially whem I’m sharing it with my beloved family.
What is your cooking style like? Do you listen to music, plan ahead, make a mess or there’s always an unexpected factor?
Easy and relaxing cooking style. I plan ahead each specific meal that I cook.
The funniest or most interesting thing that has happened while you have been hosting an Eataway meal?
The most interesting thing that happened is in my first ever Eataway meal. I was so excited and nervous but later everything was really enjoyable. Moreover, during one of the meals I hosted, one guest brought coffee making equipment with her and prepared special coffee after the meal for everyone including me. She prepared it so much care and love and dedicated it to me. It was such a nice and sweet memory and will remain evergreen to me.
What would you tell a potential cook that is nervous about hosting a meal?
Be yourself and enjoy the time with guests around you.
What do you like the most about hosting?
To answer curious guest’s question regarding the recipe of the course I prepared.
What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
I totally love to spend time with my babe daughter, but besides that I love gardening, experimenting with new recipes and I’m also interested in photography.
Your table is full of travelers, what 3 things do you suggest they should do in Kraków?
I’d definitely recommend them to visit Rynek, enjoy Saltmine in Wieliczka and definitely try Eataway! To me Eataway is the one of the best platforms to make friends from different countries as well as sharing meal. From my perspective, it gives me a wonderful opportunity to represent my country and its fabulous culture.
